June 6th: The first day of the blockades has seen most of the roads that lead to Heiligendamm blocked. Throughout the day different groups set out to shut off access points to the G8 venue. Many groups used a variety of tactics during the day, from sit-down road occupations to building barricades to breaking through police lines to reach their blockade locations. Despite police use of water cannon, mounted police, and helicopters to ferry in reinforcements, many more than expected made it through the no-protest zone to blockade right up to the G8 security fences. By 2pm the four registered rallies/blockades surrounding the Rostock-Laage airport had ended.

On June 2nd, tens of thousands of anti-G8 protesters, with several thousands on the Black Bloc alone, took part in the international demonstration in Rostock. With colourful banners and puppets, protesters of different backgrounds tried to draw attention to the bigger problem of capitalism and the 'empire'. Police was very aggressive and provocative, using batons, water cannons and tear gas, not only against the 'bad protestors' but 'normal' ones as well. Violent confrontations were taking place while, on stage, the concert and speeches were trying to continue. Over 100 people were arrested and many injured on both sides.

English Language Updates From Indymedia Germany
On May 28th, there was a large march against the summit held by European Union and Asian economics ministers from ASEM. The march had 4,000-6,000 participants and there were up to 5,000 cops. The march was surrounded on all side by a wall at least two thick of riot police. Dozens of water cannon tanks and armored personnel carries with bulldozer blades stood by.
The march was led by a "black block" of over 1,000. In Germany it is illegal to cover your face but everyone dressed in black with hoods, hats and sunglasses.
The organizers finally decided to end the march early as a protest of police tactics; there had been arrests and other harassment. The march began to disperse but cops blocked the street. People tried to break through then eventually sat in the street. Others left through spaces at the sides. Several more arrests were made.
Many people headed back to the Rota Flora social center. Eventually hundreds outside built barricades. Hundreds of cops came and this led to several hours of minor barricades and some thrown objects and cops blocking streets. The police blasted with their water cannon tanks.

Some 300 people took to the streets of Hamburg on May 25th, in a Critical Mass cycle protesting against the upcoming G8 summit. Police vans tried to break up the ride by driving into and standing in front of them, but protesters managed to disrupt the traffic in the city centre during rush hour. Cops then followed smaller groups of cyclists to 'disperse' them. 12 people were arrested and held for several hours.
