Burmese Community Protests Outside of Chinese Consulate in San Francisco
Hundreds of Burmese activists and supporters protested outside of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco Friday October 5th, to confront the government's support of military oppression in Myanmar.
Nyunt Than, President of Burmese American Democratic Alliance (BADA) said the Chinese government should use its influence to stop the killings in Burma. Others called for a boycott of the 2008 Olympics that are scheduled to be held in Beijing.

On September 27th, Burmese soldiers raided monasteries and fired at demonstrators.
Authorities acknowledged that government troops shot dead nine demonstrators and a Japanese cameraman in Yangon. The U.S. Campaign For Burma says more than 100 people were killed in downtown Yangon after truckloads of government troops fired automatic weapons at thousands of demonstrators. It also claims that 100 students and parents were killed the same day at a high school in Tamwe, in northeastern Yangon, after troops shot at them as school let out.

Burmese military cracks down on escalating protests
On September 25, tens of thousands of monks and protesters marched through the city of Rangoon in defiance of military orders. A day earlier Burma's military junta warned that it was ready to take action against the anti-government protests that had rapidly spread across the country.
Buddhist monks dressed in maroon robes lead the marches, vowing to continue marching until they "wiped the military dictatorship from the land." The protests were the largest in Burma since 1988 when the military junta crushed a popular uprising by killing some 3,000 people.
