On June 22nd, the city of Fresno stepped up its campaign against the homeless. City workers and police officers plowed down E Street, razing an encampment and destroying dozens of people's possessions, despite efforts of the owners to save them. In the past, Fresno has run bulldozers through the camp and demolished everything in their paths. Some residents have learned to quickly move their belongings out of harm's way. This time, however, it was not as easy to avoid the cleanup crew's aggressive attack. Police prevented people from removing their valuables and even attacked people who couldn't move fast enough to save important items such as their diabetes medicine and irreplaceable paperwork.
This attack highlights the city's campaign to drive the homeless from Fresno. Crews come through every two weeks to enforce laws that criminalize homelessness and create dangerous situations for those who are being subjected to the dehumanizing policies. Read More
