Declaration of Peace Week, September 21 -28
September 21st is International Day of Peace
The Declaration of Peace is a nationwide campaign whose goal is to establish by September 21st, 2006, a concrete and rapid plan for peace in Iraq, including: a prompt timetable for withdrawal of troops and closures of bases; a peace process for security, reconstruction, and reconciliation; and the shift of funding war to meeting human needs. People across the United States are signing the Declaration of Peace pledge, which is a commitment to take action if this plan is not created and activated by Congress by September 21st, the International Day of Peace.
Declaration of Peace signers will withdraw their consent from the Iraq war and support a comprehensive peace process by taking part in nonviolent actions, marches, rallies, demonstrations, interfaith services, candlelight vigils, and other creative ways to declare peace at the US Capitol and all over the US from September 21st through 28th. A major action is planned for September 26th in Washington, DC. Events in cities such as Los Angeles and Philadelphia as part of the Declaration for Peace campaign will include nonviolence trainings and visits to senators' offices.
