Protests Against MUNI Cuts and Fare Hikes
Coalition Unites to Demand End to MUNI Cuts and Fare Hikes
The MORE (Muni Riders and Drivers Expanding) Public Transit Coalition united with Supervisors David Campos and Jon Avalos to organize a press conference and rally on May 5th.
MORE is made up of low income families, youth and elderly organizations in San Francisco and is demanding an end to MUNI service cuts, demanding MUNI seek more progressive sources of revenue, and an end to MUNI and SFPD "saturation" checkpoints on buses. Another protest was held on May 12th at 1pm at City Hall.

MORE writes: "Unlike the Mayor’s puppets on the MTA Board who voted to dismantle MUNI, the Board of Supervisors can vote to stop all the cuts and hikes by rejecting the proposed MTA budget. The Mayor and his puppets are bitterly opposed to the rejection and are trying to put the blame on the Drivers, but not once have they mentioned the costly work orders charged by various City departments that amount to over $60 million! They claim there is no money, but instead of taking from those who have benefited the most from this crisis, the rich and their corporate institutions, they target poor and low-income communities of color through the terrorizing practice known as 'saturation enforcement.'"
In spite of spirited opposition from low income communities of color at the last MTA Budget Hearing on April 20th, the MTA decided to approve the budget with a 4-3 vote calling for 10% service cuts, impacting bus lines and routes beginning May 8th.
