12/28: In an interview with the Chronicle, SF's Mayor Willie Brown stated that a 25% fare increase for Muni riders was on the agenda for 2003. A mayor has tried to raise the fares on Muni before, which would disproportionately affect the wallets of poor and working class people, when in 1993 Mayor Frank Jordan proposed a similar increase. Resistance was strong, however, and the fare hike didn't pass. You can contact the mayor if you like, to let him know what you think of his lame duck desires.
