Lebanon: July War and Beyond
San Francisco Benefit for Lebanese Independent Media
On January 18, in San Francisco a benefit will be held for Lebanese grassroots independent media at Station 40. A photography exhibition and video screening of the July 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel will be followed by a discussion. During the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon over 1200 people were killed and 1.2 million cluster bombs were dropped in a little over a month.
Part of the event will be an exhibition of photographs and writing by Ali Tonak and Barucha Calamity Peller. Both of them posted to Indybay during the July '06 conflict. Indybay's July War Coverage
An excerpt from the forthcoming documentary July War will be shown and filmmaker Brandon Jourdan will answer questions. The evening will also include Rayan El-Amine from Left Turn magazine who will give some context to the war and an update of what has been happening in Lebanon since then.
