Media Alliance Bids Farewell to Director Jeff Perlstein
Leader Pushed for the Creation of Community Journalism
Jeff Perlstein, who was one of the founders of Indymedia, steps down as Executive Director of Media Alliance this month. On May 3 a meeting/party was held in Jeff's honor at New College in San Francisco. The event also marked the 31st birthday of Media Alliance, as well as World Press Freedom Day. Media Alliance has always struggled for the cause of community journalism, and it helped kick off Indymedia in the Bay Area in 2000. During the time Perlstein led the group, it became financially solvent, offered classes and job placement, worked for hearings on FCC policy, fought for community broadband access, and went toe-to-toe with corporate media.
