Josh Wolf Headed Back to Federal Prison
Josh Wolf Attends SF Benefit Before Turning Himself In
At a press conference at the gates of the prison in Dublin on Wednesday, Josh announced that he was given a two-day reprieve and will return to prison on Friday. A benefit for Josh will be held on Thursday, September 21st at 8:00pm at Blue Cube, 34 Mason Street near Market. Speakers will include Jeff Perlstein, Kevin Epps, Sarah Olson, and more.
Josh Wolf had been ordered to turn himself in to the Dublin Correctional Facility by 1pm on Wednesday, September 20th. On September 8th, a 3-judge panel re-affirmed the civil contempt charge against him. He is being returned to jail pending a hearing before the entire 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (an "en banc" hearing). Were he to turn over all of his video footage from the 2005 protest against the G8 to the federal grand jury that is trying to examine the events of that day, he would be set free. However, Josh steadfastly asserts his rights as a journalist to keep his unpublished video. In an interview on September 19th, he said, "I am not a flight risk. I have not committed a crime."
