October 25th Protest Global War on Terror
25Oct03 Demo
10/25:
More than 15,000 people marched in San Francisco today, chanting: "$87 Billion for Jobs and Education, Not for War and Occupation," and "Bring the Troops Home Now!" National marches in San Francisco and Washington, DC were the largest show of opposition to the U.S. war and occupation of Iraq since the anti-war protests this Spring. Buses from all over the country brought 100,000 to the national march in Washington, DC. The San Francisco demonstration marched from Civic Center to Jefferson Square Park in the Western Addition district.

The U.S. occupation of Iraq has caused over 20,000 pointless civilian injuries. In addition, more than 1,500 people have died in Baghdad alone. The Pentagon's own numbers admit massive death rates. Women are threatened with rape when they leave their homes. Suicide and car bombs, civil unrest, and riots rock the nation daily. The U.S. has admitted to holding upwards of 10,000 Iraqi prisoners.
Evidence of the U.S.-led global war on terror extends beyond Iraq. Fighting continues in Afghanistan, and Israel continues to destroy and confiscate Palestinian land and has invaded and is destroying the city of Rafah. U.S. troops are speaking out against war, while the GI Rights Hotline has received a record number of calls from troops. At home, the U.S. government is cracking down on dissent and Arab, Muslim, and South Asian immigrants are targetted regularly.
