Members of the San Francisco Day Labor Program Women’s Collective conducted a press conference and march on International Women’s Day, Fri 3/8, to demand fair and humane treatment on the job, a living wage, and the use of their Collective's services by all conscientious employers. They have focused their organization on domestic work because it is one of the few forms of employment available to immigrant women in the US. As one member remarked, "We clean people’s houses and offices and care for their children and parents. Yet, many employers think they can treat us like garbage, to use and throw away."
