Day Worker Center of Santa Cruz County Seeks Funds to Build Tool Lending Library
Labor Organization Works to Provide Dependable Access to Tools
The Day Worker Center of Santa Cruz County is asking for the community's help to raise funds for a Tool Lending Library. The Center already possesses the tools, but currently lacks a reliable shed in which to store them, and as an organization that works to provide workers with job opportunities, a place to store tools is invaluable.
The Day Worker Center would like to accomplish the following: build a shed to store tools in a safe, clean, and organized way; provide access to tools so workers can lean on the Center to help them get jobs done; expand the lifetime of the Center's tools by storing them in a dry shed; provide opportunities for workers who don't have construction experience to learn hands-on skills. The shed is estimated to cost approximately $3,000, which includes labor costs, wood, plywood, paint, gravel, and miscellaneous tools to complete the project.
The Center serves the entire Santa Cruz County area with reliable services 7-days a week, such as house cleaning, yard work, moving, carpentry and painting. Santa Cruz homeowners and businesses can hire workers with confidence to help them with their ongoing and everyday needs. In Santa Cruz County, the Center stands as one of the only opportunities for unemployed individuals to work until they find long-term jobs. In addition, the Center also provides a variety of programs for its workers, such as job training, ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, and enrichment programs for workers and their children.
