Monsanto Company Protested Worldwide
"March Against Monsanto" Demonstrations Display Outrage at Giant U.S. Seed Company
Joining a global day of protest against Monsanto and the genetically modified food it produces, protesters rallied in the cities of Merced, San José, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco on May 25. Around the world protests were held in more than 400 cities.
In San Francisco, demonstrators wore costumes including those of irradiated aliens and hazmat handlers of corn and soy. A protester dressed as a two-headed chicken bore the message "Don't be chicken give them a licken'." Crowds chanted, “Label GMOs, it’s our right to know.” The crowd of thousands marched from Union Square to Justin Herman Plaza where urban farmers tore up grass and planted a garden.
In Merced, Santa Cruz, and San José, demonstrations further gave popular voice to the growing outrage over Monsanto's agribusiness practices that put small farmers out of business and public health at risk.
