Going Out of Business Bike Ride to the Subversive Shorts Festival
A Group Bike Tour of a Failing Economy in Santa Cruz
Bike radicals will gather on Friday, August 1st at 5:30pm at Pacific and Cooper and then at 6:00pm begin a Going Out of Business ride! through the streets of Santa Cruz, touring the damage done to local businesses as the American economy starts to skid and crash. Particular attention will be paid to the auto-dependent businesses that have failed in the wake of a 5 year old war in Iraq and record oil-company profits. Along fenced off "No Trespassing" signs, artwork will be erected along with signs foretelling a future not tethered to the needs of cars, compulsive consumerism, and property rights.
The ride will conclude in downtown Santa Cruz at the Guerilla Drive-In's annual Subversive Shorts Festival. To skirt Santa Cruz laws regarding amplified sound, the Guerilla Drive-In asks that people bring a FM radio to pick up the audio which will be broadcasted.
