Gender, Health Care and the Prison Industrial Complex
Critical Resistance Event in Santa Cruz on February 21st
On February 21st, Critical Resistance presented Gender, Health Care and the Prison Industrial Complex, at the Louden Nelson Community Center in Santa Cruz. This forum was the second in a series of monthly events that focus on different aspects of the prison industrial complex. The evening featured speakers from Justice Now, Critical Resistance and Santa Cruz AIDS Project.
Critical Resistance is a national grassroots organization that seeks to build an international movement to end the prison industrial complex by challenging the belief that caging and controlling people makes us safe. It believes that basic necessities such as food, shelter and freedom are what really make communities secure. Its monthly events aim to provide a collective space to discuss the prison industrial complex; how it impacts different lives; and abolition, in the hopes of inspiring people to attend Critical Resistance's 10th Anniversary weekend celebration (September 26th-28th, 2008) and to work towards building the prison abolition movement. The March 20th event will consider Youth, Education & Incarceration.
