On July 30th, Matt Gonzalez announced that he would not run for Mayor after a Progressive Convention in June produced no candidate. Many progressives had been pushing for Gonzalez, Ross Mirkarimi, or Chris Daly to run, but none agreed. Some on the Left are decrying the lack of Red or Green candidates willing to take on Newsom. Newsom has so far raised $1.6 million for his mayoral campaign, despite the lack of a clear opponent willing to threaten him.
