May 5th-6th Weekend of Solidarity With Eric McDavid
Eric McDavid Has Been Held in Jail, Pre-Trial, for More Than One Year
Eric McDavid has now been in jail, pre-trial, for 15 months. He has been in Total Separation, or solitary, that entire time. Since his arrest, his co-defendants (Zachary Jenson and Lauren Weiner) have agreed to testify against him, in a case that has been entirely based on the reports from a paid FBI informant. He has constantly stood by his principles during his incarceration - enduring a grueling two week hunger strike to get vegan meals.
His next hearing has been scheduled for April 16th at 10:00am. May 5th and 6th, 2007 will be a weekend of international solidarity for Eric McDavid. On this day, supporters all over the world will use art, music, and other creative means to raise funds for, and awareness about, Eric and his case. $7000 for legal expenses has been raised so far, but organizers have said that they need to raise $8000 before the beginning of the trial.
Through the Support Eric website, event organizers can find flyers, t-shirt designs, and other information about the case; a list of events will be posted. His supporters say, "Let's think of this weekend as not just a means to raise money, but as a way to gather and create so much love and energy for Eric that it can reach him behind those concrete walls and help carry him through these most difficult times." Eric can still receive letters, but his supporters ask that letter writers not discuss his case and issues related to it, as pre-trial detainees' mail can be used against them in court.
