January 22nd "Pill Bottle Dumps" Demand an End to the DEA Raids
Patients Ask DEA to Help Find Medical Marijuana
On Monday, January 22nd, "Pill Bottle Dump" actions were held at local federal buildings around California. Events have been scheduled for 12pm at federal buildings in cities such as Los Angeles and Sacramento. In San Francisco, protesters gathered at 12pm at 450 Golden Gate, and then marched to City Hall. Post a report Americans for Safe Access says, "Medical cannabis patients and providers are under attack!" The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has raided a number of dispensaries and grow facilities in the last two months. This has limited safe access to cannabis for bona-fide patients statewide. In response, ASA organized the a national day of action on January 22nd, to demand an end to DEA raids on patients and providers who are abiding by their state law.
Patients dumped empty prescription bottles at federal buildings, demanding that the DEA refill the bottles if they continue to undermine state medical cannabis laws by raiding patients and their providers. At several of the actions, medicinal marijuana advocates planned to pass out flyers to the public that asked, "Do you know where I can find medical marijuana?" In light of the continued raids, patients have been wondering where they can procure their medicine. Americans for Safe Access says, "Safe access to medical cannabis can improve health care outcomes, including adherence to conventional medical treatment. Limited access can threaten health and well-being."
