On Saturday November 11th over 500 Berkeley residents and Bay Area environmentalists marched on the Pacific Steel Foundry calling for an immediate halt to the companies discharge of heavy metals into the atmosphere. One father whose six year old son attended school at the Franklin Parent Pre-School two blocks from the factory, told the crowd about how his 6 year old son came down with serious lung ailments that cleared up when he moved to a different school. Pacific Steel Casting in West Berkeley is known as a major chronic polluter, emitting noxious odors and toxic pollutants into the air-- the odors, which have been described as smelling like "burned brakes or burned pot handle," can be detected miles south of the facility. Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice, Ecology Center, West Berkeley Alliance for Clean Air and Safe Jobs, PSC Protest Committee, and Global Community Monitor have came together to organize this march and rally against PSC's pollution.
