Die-In at the Ferry Building
Forty People Conduct Action to Draw Attention to Use of US Tax Dollars to Kill Civilians
On Saturday, September 16th, the anniversary of the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre in Lebanon, over 40 Bay Area activists staged a "die-in" at the Ferry Building in San Francisco to highlight the fact that US tax money has been used to fund the attacks on and killings of civilians in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq.

On September 16th, 1982, being a refugee meant rape, torture and death for over 2,750 people living in the Sabra & Shatila refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon. The camp was set up in 1949, after Israel forced approximately 711,000 Palestinians to flee their homes the year before, creating the largest refugee population in the world. In 1982, Israel allowed militias to massacre thousands of refugees living in the camps. Twenty-four years later, the Israeli siege on Lebanon and occupation of Palestine continue. Since 1948, the number of Palestinian refugees has climbed to over 4,600,000. These are people who have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and their safety.
