"Our future depends on our ability to mobilize the medical cannabis community"
Green Cross Faces Appeals Board Hearing
On July 13th, the Planning Department of the City and County of San Francisco held a public hearing to decide whether the application to operate a medical cannabis dispensary in the Marina-North Beach-Fisherman's Wharf area by The Green Cross would be granted or denied. Many medical marijuana supporters feel that the Green Cross was unfairly denied the right to operate. They were the last case heard that day, near or after the official 5pm end of hearings. Although the neighborhood opposition groups voiced their opinions, the Green Cross supporters were not given the time to speak.
A last effort by the Green Cross will be a scheduled hearing before the Appeals Board of the City and County of San Francisco on November 1st at 5pm, and will take place at City Hall in Room 416. The example of the Green Cross has gained national media attention, as some believe that this case could decide the fate of medical marijuana laws and dispensary operations in San Francisco, which is often seen as a model for other cities and counties.
Green Cross supporters are urging others to write a letter in support of the dispensary to the Appeals Board. Kevin Reed reports that in the last round the city received 133 letters of support of the dispensary, while the opposition generated 235 letters. Sample letter
