Areas in Davis sprayed with pesticide with no timely, advanced warning
Group urges the review of spray policy, effectiveness
Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District (SYMVCD) sprayed portions of Davis with the pesticide 'Suspend SC' without timely warning to residents in area, including Arroyo Park, West Area, Drainage, and the cemetery this past week.
According to Stop West Nile Spraying Now (SWNSN), the effectiveness of adulticide spraying to prevent West Nile disease is questionable at best. The group is also concerned about the harmful effects on people and animals. In the press release put forth by SWNSN on July 25th, the group stated"... there are known risks to humans from the pesticides being sprayed, and people with asthma and immune-compromised systems are especially at risk..." Additionally, the group is alarmed by the lack of warning to residents.
SYMVCD held a press conference on July 31st to announce the results from the first spraying. Read More
