Campaign Encourages People to Send a Work Glove for Immigration Reform
Americans to Bombard Senators and Congresspeople with Symbol of Ideal of Hard Work
As elected office holders and the American public debate what should be done to fix the US's immigration system, the anti-immigrant forces, led by the Minutemen, are mailing thousands of bricks (to "help" build a wall along the border) to members of Congress. These bricks are symbols of division, of isolation, and of an enforcement-only approach to immigration reform. Immigrant rights advocates plan to counter the anti-immigrant bricks with a symbol of the positive contributions that immigrants make to the U.S. -- work gloves.

Immigrant rights supporters are being encouraged to send a work glove to the Washington, DC offices of their local Senators and Representatives. The work glove could be coming from a person's garage, local hardware store, or place of employment, along with a letter urging them to support fair and just immigration reform. People who don't have a work glove can also order glove via Send-a-workglove.com.

The more gloves that are sent, the more people will show that they will not sit quietly by as talk radio hosts and anti-immigrant activists bombard members of Congress with bricks and letters calling for harsher enforcement of broken laws. The symbol of division will be countered with a symbol of one of our nation's "most respected" values: hard work. Organizers say that this campaign has to do with providing hard-working people who follow US laws with the opportunity to share in the "American dream." Read more
