8/30: Still We Rise March, a permitted march for "a generation with housing and healthcare, jobs, and income support for all, a generation without criminalization, of sane politics around AIDS, immigration, and education." 8/31: Activists from Direct Action to Stop the War were arrested in New York today, as they called for actions "Beyond Voting", and for Real Democracy, Not Empire. Photos: 1 The Rude Mechanical Orchestra, which also included Bay Area residents, was arrested, and the instruments of some of its members were damaged by the police. Several people from Fresno were detained near Ground Zero. The War Resisters League and others marched from Ground Zero to Madison Square Garden to perform a "die-in." Video Mainstream media coverage for the day focused on this morning's action in which people from such groups as the Ronald Reagan Home for the Criminally Insane and Code Pink wore pig snouts and chanted anti-Halliburton and Cheney slogans near the hotel where Texas delegates were staying. A Yale student who had posed as an RNC volunteer yelled in Dick Cheney's face on the convention floor this week. According to the mainstream media, over 950 people were arrested today. Some breaking news items from the NYC Indymedia newswire this evening.
