ILWU Lock Out
9/29: After a temporary lockout and 1 day back on the job, West Coast ILWU portworkers were officially locked out today by the Pacific Maritime Association, which is attempting to force workers to accept a contract that no longer guarantees new jobs will be unionized. Portworkers are forming picket lines at all west coast ports, in case the employers bring in scabs and attempt to unload cargo with non-union labor. ILWU Local 10 has requested help from supporters to staff picket lines at the port of Oakland immediately, including the following docks: Sealand, Maersk, Berth 5, Jack London Square, and APL (foot of Adeline St). According to corporate media reports, Bush has said he's ready to bring in the National Guard to keep cargo moving.
