May Day 2001 Protest Occupies Streets for Hours in San Francisco
A large protest and party went from Justin Herman Plaza to the intersection of Mission & Fourth, where they danced to a live marching band and a mobile soundsystem. A large maypole was constructed, and televisions were smashed. A protest in solidarity with Jaggi Singh and other Quebec City political prisoners joined the party. People hung out all night peacefully as police began to face the fact that these street parties are legitimate and will continue. SFPD were present but relaxed and followed as protesters moved around the city.
