Boycott Called Against Restaurants in Golden Gate Rest. Assoc. for Support of "Care Not Cash"
Counterfeit Care
POOR Magazine/PoorNewsNetwork (PNN) calls a boycott of the restaurants in the Golden Gate Restaurant Association. These restaurants support the anti-poor people legislation - Proposition N "Care Not Cash." See the boycott list
8/26: Anti-poverty activists took to the streets of SF on 8/23 to voice their anger at Proposition N, the "Care not Cash" initiative spearheaded by mayoral candidate Gavin Newsom and dubbed "Counterfeit Care" by its detractors. Activists point out that all the initiative will do is take money away from those that need it most while promising no services in return. They also point out that people receiving General Assistance money will be required to work via Workfare at a wage of $0.11/hour. Gay rights activists are concerned about the impact of the initiative on the disproportionate number of Queers that live on the streets, with 40% of homeless youths being gay.
Anti-poverty activists with such groups as POWER, the Coalition on Homelessness, Food Not Bombs, Homes Not Jails & others are gearing up for a major battle against the initiative and urged folks to vote No on Proposition N.
