Thu Baker Beach outlook report, as requested:
Calling all artists, sun-worshipers and nudists!
For at least the last decade many Burners and How Weird-types have
reclaimed the far north end of Baker Beach in SF from the usual dodgy
element that infiltrates nude beaches. We have made the far north end
creeper-free by our sheer numbers, and by using a few Jedi-mind
tricks. This particular spot where it is hard to get past the rocks
and go any further is home to the "duney" and features spontaneous
lumber art and rock cairns (a photo of the art recently appeared in
the SF Chronicle's Sunday mag). The duney is a series of shade
structures, a bar, sometimes a BBQ, volleyball and a meeting place for
all the Baker regulars. Jump on in the mix and join the party! It's
like a day on vacation at Club Med!
All this week starting Tuesday or Wednesday and into next weekend will
be extraordinarily nice beach days, we call them Baker Days, when off
shore winds from the valley push out the fog and create epic
conditions for being outside.
Here are two excellent sites to check and see if it's a Baker Day:

Group Sex Then and Now: A Play Party Retrospective Panel Discussion at CSC
Thursday, 5/22, 7:30PM-10:30PM -- GROUP SEX THEN AND NOW:
A Play Party Retrospective - Panel Discussion Moderated by Reid Mihalko
Play party. Orgy. Love-In. Group scene... Call it what you will, but have you ever been to a sex party? What about one that happened twenty-five years ago?
Join New York City sex and relationship geek (and play party educator) Reid Mihalko as he moderates a distinguished panel of Bay Area play party promoters and attendees (past and present) to discuss the rich history of San Francisco's sex parties, swap favorite stories and tips, share valuable lessons learned, and muse where they see play parties heading in the future...
If you've ever wondered what group sex was like "way back when" (or now!), or how the people who attend play parties today differ from those twenty years ago, or how the rules surrounding group sexual dynamics have changed through the years... If you're curious who is throwing play parties today, what kinds of events are out there and for whom, where they happen, who attends, and if there is a play party for me and what I'm into... Please join us for a group of group-sex geeks talking about... What else?... group sex!

Why am I forwarding this?
Because I do not like police states or authoritarian regimes that command me to wear clothes
made of petroleum and synthetic chemicals that cause cancer,
assembled in sweat shops, requiring nuclear or coal energy to wash or dry
in carcinogenic laundry detergents that cast phosphates into our water table
that restrict my movement when I am swimming or crossing rivers
and generally serve to remove us from our humanity.

Community Empowerment Convergence "The Big ONE" 2008 A Grand Collaboration
A village of engagement for healthy body, home, family and community
June 21& 22, 9am-7pm Sharon Meadow, Golden Gate Park
The Big ONE 2008, is a free two-day community building event, the first annual gathering of its kind in the Bay Area. This convergence is intended to develop new relationships through dialogue, committed engagement, and trust. We desire to collectively re-envision our communities. We want to develop sustainability awareness and action, civic engagement, and localization of culture, economy, and decision-making. We promote respect for all life and the planet that sustains us
The convergence will be located in Golden Gate Park in Sharon Meadow, June 21 and 22, 2008. Ten neighborhood tents will make up the village. Each neighborhood will represent a community need, addressing such issues as Youth Engagement and Empowerment, Social Justice, Global Warming, Green Jobs , Greening the City and Schoolyards, Civic Engagement, Story Telling from our Elders, Sustainable Community (food, water and sewage security), Permaculture, World Peace, Health, Alternative Medicine, Education, Music, Dance and Art, GLBTQ, Race & Culture, Spirituality, and Community Communication.
The "Village of Engagement" is a gathering of people from Bay Area Non-Profit Organizations, Foundations, members of the Community, Schools, Worker-Owned Coops, Entrepreneurs and representatives from our respective Bay Area City Governments. Participants will have the opportunity to design, envision, collaborate, and dialog with new friends on the future of their own neighborhoods.
To prepare for the challenging times ahead of us, we encourage you to come, be heard, and engage. The format of your participation can be setting up a table or tent in one of the neighborhoods to collaborate and share information, interactive classes, power-point presentations, hands-on demonstrations of sustainable skills, forums or artistic endeavors. We provide the space....you fill it with your dreams. We are using the Wiser Earth platform to organize, plan and co-create the event at beautifulcommunities.org.
This is a 100% noncommercial event. Nothing will be for sale. We encourage everyone to bring food and drink and extra to share with your new friends! Come experience and participate. "The New Me is We".

The Political Mind: Why You Can't Understand 21st Century American Politics with an 18th Century Brain
Tuesday, June 24, 6:00 PM Mechanics' Institute 57 Post St SF
Linguist George Lakoff discusses language, politics, the human brain and how all three connect in his fascinating study of modern politics. Effective story-telling, according to Lakoff, touches an emotional chord in humans that is far more effective than the dry and logical discussion of issues. Any political movement that hopes to succeed must approach voters using a language that engages listeners on that emotional level. The impact will be seen in this upcoming election! reservations call 415-393-0100 or email at rsvp [at] milibrary.org
