I C E = In case of emergency From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Case of Emergency, or ICE, is a program that enables first responders, such as paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, to identify victims and contact their next of kin to obtain important medical information. The program was conceived in the mid-2000s and promoted by British paramedic Bob Brotchie in May 2005.
It encourages people to enter emergency contacts in their cell phone address book under the name "ICE". Alternately, a person can list multiple emergency contacts as "ICE1", "ICE2", etc. The popularity of the program has spread across Europe, and has started to grow into North America.

Party for a Cause @ Le Duplex 1525 Mission Friday, January 11, 6:00PM
Join the India Project team of San Francisco's Engineers without Borders chapter at Duplex (http://www.duplexsf.com) for a night of good music and entertainment for a great cause. Engineers without Borders (http://www.ewb-sfp.org/) is a non-profit with a mission to help developing communities worldwide with a hands on approach involving engineering professionals and students. The India team is gearing up to send two of its members (Deepa and Kim) to India in February 2008 to implement a project in a village located on the tsunami-affected southeastern coast of the country. The project, which will be completed in collaboration with a local NGO, will help improve villagers access to clean water and proper sanitation. Previous fundraising efforts cover the costs for project materials and supplies. The proceeds from this event will help our volunteers pay for travel expenses needed to successfully implement this phase of the project.

January 15, 7-10 PM 111 Minna Gallery 111 Minna St San Francisco, CA
Electronic Frontier Foundation's birthday bash: http://www.eff.org/eff17``
The birthday bash will be on January 15, 7-11 PM, at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. Headliners Adrian & the Mysterious D (A+D), the DJ duo that founded the seminal mashup party "Bootie," will be dropping a shameless, genre-smashing blend of tracks, backed up by DJ sets from Bay Area copyfighters Ripley, Kid Kameleon and EFF's own J Tones and Qubitsu.
The EFF party will also feature an exclusive chocolate sampling with TCHO, "a new chocolate company for a new generation of chocolate enthusiasts." Founded by Wired co-founder Louis Rossetto and legendary chocolatier Timothy Childs, himself a former technologist, TCHO will be bringing a "beta release" of its best dark chocolate to the party table. Attendees are invited to vote for their favorite TCHO beta chocolate flavors at the party -- feedback that will help define TCHO's next steps as they gear up for a national release.
