Warm Water Cove is a neglected and largely unknown park owned by the Port along the eastern shoreline. It has been re-done 3 times, but still is essentially a homeless park. Come hear from Mike Ernst, city planning student and first Piero N. Patri fellow, talk about his innovative plans to expand and revitalize Warm Water Cove Park. Can good design change use patterns? Have any ideas for how to bring the public to this part of the city? This park could be a jewel in the new Blue GreenWay Trail. Also, hear an introduction by Chris Guillard, Landscape Architect and NPC Board Member, on how parks can be utilized as more than amenities from storm water management to productive gardens using Treasure Island as a model. Inspired by a gruesome real-life trio of South American serial killers (among them Luis Alfredo Garavito, who shocked Colombia with the murders of about 140 children), Crónicas follows Miami tabloid TV correspondent Manolo Bonilla (John Leguizamo) and his crew (Leonor Watling and José Mar Yazpik) as they report on one such killer in Babahoyo, Ecuador, failing Journalistic Ethics 101 in the process. The film is aided a strong sense of place; sorrow's descent on Babahoyo feels as perpetual and all-consuming as the torrents of rain that drench the region, and the town itself—much of it suspended over water on ramshackle bamboo bridges—threatens to collapse from its own psychological detritus.
