Robert Hofler
@ Main Library
The James C. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center at the SF Main Library presents author
Robert Hofler, who will share stories from his recently published book,
"The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson:
The Pretty Boys and the Dirty Deals of Henry Willson."

Hofler, a senior editor for Variety magazine, delves into the shadowy, sometimes seamy world of Hollywood dealmaking.
He also chronicles Willson's maneuvers to sidestep the FBI's investigation into Hudson's sex life; the starmaker's use of off-duty Los Angeles Police Dept. cops and mob ties to scare off Hudson's blackmailers; Hudson's "arranged" marriage to Willson's secretary, Phyllis Gates;
as well as Hudson's affair with a Universal Pictures vice president to help secure starring roles in "Magnificent Obsession" and "Giant".
Hofler's books will be available for sale and signing.

Jan. 27-28, SF:
electro-dances
for LOVE PARADE and SomArts

The San Francisco Late Night Coalition,
with numerous bay area electronic dance music collectives,
proudly invites you to participate in two huge parties supporting
Loveparade San Francisco 2006
http://www.loveparadesf.org
and the SomArts Cultural Center
http://www.somarts.org

Both events will be held at SomArts, 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco.

On Friday, January 27th, Skills DJ Workshop brings together 20 different production companies
and 50 DJs for "GIVING BACK THE LOVE".
This should be a rocking party showcasing
the exuberance and idealism of the
younger side of the bay area electronic dance scene.
The flyer and lineup can be seen at
http://www.skillsdj.com

On Saturday, January 28th, the more underground/burner
side of the scene will be out in force for a phat lineup of
house, breaks and trance organized by Opel Productions, Tantra and many other local collectives.
[.....]

The 2005 Loveparade was a great success with well over 50,000 people spreading the love
along Market Street and at Civic Center.
The costs of the city fees and personnel required for a downtown parade were huge however, so many groups are coming together to pay the remaining debt
so that Loveparade San Francisco 2006 can proceed full steam ahead! [.....]

The SomArts Cultural Gallery is a non-profit art gallery and event space that hosts many
seminal electronic dance and art parties [.....]

Friday Feb 3, 7-10 pm: The public is invited to a free artists reception
at Femina Potens Gallery.
A secret language of stories combining sculpture and photography suggests New Work by Teri Claude & Kirstyn Russell. Claude's sculptures express a longing for outdoor landscapes from the confines of interior materials while Russell highlights the color within the seemingly bleak through photographs; both create partial narratives with room for the viewer to project their own stories.
Femina Potens Gallery presents Claude & Russell from February 3rd-24th, 2006. The show combines sculpture and photography, approaching a similar subject matter using different media. The sculptures recreate objects from the landscape while the photographs explore the potential for the landscapes to be gendered. Kirstyn Russell's work includes images from the series Outposts; photographing gay and lesbian bars in rural areas, the photos contain very few clues that let you know the true identity of these spaces. Teri Claude's sculptures combine a feeling of benign domesticity with an aggressive phallic shape and attempts to express the paradox of this aggressive (phallic) domesticity.
