text Oakland CED committee failed to send renter protection initiative to City Council by Lynda Carson
Despite the pleas of all the speakers in support of the renter protection initiative and the occurring massive housing crisis that is displacing tens of thousands of renters with evictions and excessive rent increases by greedy landlords, things could have gone better at the CED meeting for the tenants facing displacement from their housing.

Eviction stories are all over the news wires lately, revealing that the majority of people being evicted from their housing all across the nation are women with children. According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, there is a shortage of 7.2 million affordable housing units across the nation.

Sunday, May 22, 2016: The white nationalist group Identity Evropa posted a series of photos on Twitter, indicating that they had pasted 9 new posters with their name and message around Berkeley. At 4:16am, they tweeted: "We noticed that some triggered individual ripped down our poster. However, we are still here." Less than 24 hours later, areas in West Berkeley could be seen to have replaced IE's posters with stickers reading "Anti-Fascist Zone."

The East Bay Rental Housing Association has hired Singer Associates to go after the Oakland renters movement because the landlords are concerned about all of the bad press they have been receiving due to so many people being evicted, including the massive rent increases displacing thousands from their housing! Singer Associates is owned by Sam Singer of Berkeley who is known as a so-called hired gun for corporations and Big Money!
