Hello Amnesty activists,
As part of a small group, I've been to the consulate of El Salvador at 500 Golden Gate Avenue three times to demand the release of gay hairdresser Andry Hernandez Romero incarcerated at CECOT and the closure of that prison. Our hope has been that others would stage vigils and pressers at the consulate, and pressure the Nayib Bukele government, but that hasn't happened.
Today we see you're organizing an action on June 4th at Mission and 22nd Street, with the theme of close Gitmo, and to stop the Trvmp Administration 2.0 from transporting prisoners to CECOT, and have a few questions we ask you to address.
Why is the protest at that location? We are not aware of any government office or other appropriate site at that corner related in any way to Gitmo, CECOT, etc.
Have you considered moving your protest to the Salvadoran consulate?
Since you are organizing monthly events, will you organize the July action at the consulate, which is two short blocks from City Hall?
Below are pics from our actions at the consulate, that we hope inspire you to mobilize your network to protest at this location where you would have a tremendous impact.
We await your response and anticipate a constructive dialogue with you.
Regards,
Michael Petrelis
