People's Park Fenced Off by University of California Berkeley

by Defend People's Park
For 50 years, UC administrators have schemed to take People's Park from those who turned a dirt lot into a lush, community-focused public sanctuary. Now, UCB is on the verge of permanently destroying the park. Fencing has gone up while soil is tested in anticipation of construction of a 16-story housing complex in 2022. Surveillance units have been installed to deter resistance. Unless large numbers of people unite to fight back, and soon, People's Park will become lost forever.

If you want to help but can't be at People's Park, call Gov Gavin Newsom. The Governor is a Ex Officio UC Regent. Leave a message of support for People's Park. Be polite, don't leave a message that would harm our chances of saving the park.

Talking points: People's Park is part of California's history. It is some of the only available open recreational space south of campus. The UC should not instigate a confrontational situation during Covid crisis. The UC has other locations to build housing.

Buy it from the UC. The park is a hazard to the public anyways.
