The California Apartment Association is well known for raising BIG MONEY to meddle in California’s politics and elections, often in an effort to support politicians or candidates that oppose tenant’s rights, rent control, or just cause eviction protections.

BIG MONEY:
BIG MONEY was spent to oppose Dr. Sion Roy, for State Senate/District 24, and Ada Briceno for State Assembly/District 67.
As an example, according to public records with the California Secretary of State, as recent as 5/8/2026, $450.000.00 was spent to oppose Dr. Sion Roy, State Senate/District 24, coming from the CAA and Pacifica Campaign House, LLC.
As recent as 4/22/2026, $400.000.00, was spent to oppose Ada Briceno/State Assembly/District 67, coming from the CAA and Pacifica Campaign House, LLC.
As recent as 5/1/2026, $300.000.00, was spent to oppose Ada Briceno/State Assembly/District 67, coming from the CAA and Dragon Fly Affairs, INC.
Additionally, as recent as 5/1/2026, $243,750.00, was spent to oppose Dr. Sion Roy, State Senate/District 24, coming from the CAA and Dragon Fly Affairs, INC.
Why is BIG MONEY and the CAA in opposition to Dr. Sion Roy? According to Dr. Sion Roy on Instagram, “The endorsement of the Barrington Plaza Tenants Association is so meaningful to me. The residents there - all renters - have been through so much over the years, and their resilience, organizing prowess, and self-advocacy is truly inspiring to me. I look forward to being an advocate for them and renters across the district as their representative in Sacramento.”
Dr. Sion Roy the renters in Sacramento, which apparently is a big no, no, as far as the CAA is concerned.
Reportedly, Sion Roy (Democratic Party) ran for election to the California State Senate to represent District 24, in Sacramento. He lost in the primary on June 2, 2026.
Additionally. Reportedly, “Under Ada Briceno’s leadership, her union helped pass funding to build thousands of new affordable housing units and protect renters from being displaced from their housing. She's stood shoulder to shoulder with workers, immigrants, and renters. Ada Briceno for State Assembly/District 67, in north Orange County, and southeastern Los Angeles County, lost in the primary on June 2, 2026.”
The above information may help to explain why BIG MONEY was spent recently to defeat Ada Briceno for State Assembly/District 67.
And what about Cops Voter Guide, INC.? They have also linked up with the CAA. However, reportedly, in a news report, in part it says, “Voters are expressing confusion and frustration after receiving a mailer titled 'COPS Voter Guide.' Brandon Salgado was sorting through the mail this past weekend at his grandfather’s home in Santee when he saw the political mailer. "It’s got the badge, says 'COPS Voter Guide.' On the back it says 'COPS' and it's red and blue. Looks like something law enforcement would back," said Salgado. A video on the the COPS Voter Guide website says the Folsom-based group is a non-partisan, public advocacy organization.”
That’s right! They are not really cops despite the claim of being the Cops Voter Guide, INC. It does not appear very ethical for the CAA to link up with an organization masquerading as the “Cops Voter Guide.”
According to records with the Secretary of State, the California Apartment Association has also linked up with Advance California. Advance California is sponsored by the California Apartment Association (CAA). Advance California is a 501(c)(4) right-wing organization, committed to promoting conservative principles.
According to the last reported 990 tax filing for Advance California for 2019, it is located in Austin, Texas, and in part it says, “It has been tax exempt since July 2019, with $7.46k in expenses, with total assets of $19.8k. Jaime Barton (Director), Carin Ryan (Director), and Peter Roberson (Director), and Chris Young is Executive Director. Phone number, (318) 680-5948 - Located at PO Box 341016 Austin, Texas 78734.
There is no telling as to how long the above links will be functioning, before they are terminated with the California Secretary of State.
