Location Details:
Join Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib—the only Palestinian-American Member of Congress—for a special virtual conversation commemorating 78 years since the Nakba began. The event will feature guest speaker Dr. Yousef Munayyer, Head of the Palestine/Israel Program and Senior Fellow at Arab Center Washington DC.
The Nakba began with Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homeland in 1948. Between 1947-1949, between 750,000 and 1 million Palestinians—approximately 4 of out every 5 Palestinians—became refugees as they were expelled from their homes by Israel or fled in fear for their lives as Israel committed massacres.
During the Nakba, Israel destroyed hundreds of Palestinian villages, stole Palestinian land, and refused to allow refugees to return home despite them having the right to do so under international law.
Now, 78 years later, the Nakba is still ongoing as Israel continues to inflict genocide on Palestinians in Gaza, drive Palestinians off their land in the West Bank, and engages in ethnic cleansing in Lebanon.
