Anasse Kazib — a worker and a leader and spokesperson of Révolution Permanente — announced this Thursday that the French state decided to prosecute him for a tweet in support of Palestine. Now we need an international campaign in his defense.

On Thursday, January 9, Anasse Kazib, railway worker, union activist, and spokesman for Révolution Permanente (RP), part of the International Network La Izquierda Diario (LID) in France, announced on X that the French state has decided to prosecute him for a tweet in support of the Palestinian people, along with another RP activist.

The trial, to be held on June 18th, follows the summons of our comrade — along with other activists and politicians — by the anti-terrorist judicial police last April. Among those persecuted by the French state for showing solidarity with the Palestinian people are Rima Hassan, the French Palestinian politician and activist born in the Palestinian refugee camp of Neirab, near Aleppo, Syria; and Mathilde Panot, the French progressive politician who has been president of La France Insoumise in the National Assembly since October 2021.

In a press release, Kazib denounced this decision, which is in response to a denunciation submitted by Jeunesse Française Juive, a far right, pro-Israel organization. Regarding the latter, Anasse stated: “I am a unionist with SUD Rail and a political activist, spokesperson for a national organization. By persecuting me, the State is testing the limits of what it can do in the repressive sphere to send us a message. At the same time, it’s a reminder that in 2025, after more than a year of massacres in Gaza, ‘justice’ still threatens to imprison those who dare to denounce this barbarism.”

Last April, more than 700 international personalities such as Adèle Haenel, Annie Ernaux, Nancy Fraser, Rony Brauman, Silvia Federici and Joey Starr had already denounced, in a petition, “The attack against Anasse Kazib, carried out by Macron and his government, hand in hand with pro-Israeli extremists.” While hundreds of repressive actions have been carried out in recent months against supporters of Palestine, the decision to prosecute the national spokesman of a political organization such as RP — and former candidate for the 2022 presidential election — is unprecedented.

As our comrades of Révolution Permanente pointed out, “While the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has condemned France for its use of ‘apology for terrorism,’ which undermines freedom of speech, we will not be intimidated. In the face of the continuing deterioration of democratic rights in the country, we will have to build a front to defend our right of showing solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

In 2025, the state decided to prosecute me for a tweet in support of Palestine.Dear comrades, I want to wish you a happy 2025, which I hope will be full of hopes, struggles and revolutions, but also to announce important news. The year 2025 will be marked, for me, by an ordeal: after having been summoned in April by the anti-terrorist police, along with personalities such as Mathilde Panot, Rima Hassan or Sihame Assbague, the state finally decided to prosecute me for “apology for terrorism.”Therefore, I will be judged on June 18, 2025 with another RP comrade.

The penalty can be up to 7 years in prison, thousands of euros in fines, and disqualification for a tweet in support of the Palestinian people dated October 2023. The complaint was filed by a pro-Israeli organization close to the far right, which compares the Palestinian flag to the Nazi flag on social media, and openly expresses its support for Trump and Zemmour.I am a unionist for SUD Rail and a political activist and spokesperson for a national organization. By persecuting me, the state is stretching the limits of what it can do in the repressive realm and sends us a message. At the same time, it reminds us that in 2025, after more than a year of massacres in Gaza, “justice” still threatens to imprison those who dare to denounce this brutality.

After Jean-Paul Delescaut and dozens of others were convicted, the hundreds of proceedings against activists and demonstrators, and the chaos of summonses and searches, this is a new escalation. As we have done with every summons, hearing, and ban on demonstrations in recent months, we will have to unite to defend basic democratic rights, and our right to oppose the regime and show solidarity with the Palestinian people.Of course, the stress of this process will not prevent me from continuing to participate in all the struggles of our class — the working class — in the factories, in the universities, in the demonstrations. In 2025, my wish is to see the workers, the youth, and the oppressed organizing from below, fighting with their own methods. I hope we can fight for demands that seriously respond to the difficulties that we experience every day, and not just for the crumbs that the bosses “allow” us to demand. Only then will we be able to push back Bayrou, Macron, Le Pen, Arnault, and Bolloré in France, and throughout the world. I count on your solidarity in the face of this new attack.
