Going Forward: An Update from the Editors of It's Going Down
A week ago, It’s Going Down published a statement announcing that we were putting this project on hiatus after ten years. Tired and burned out, we were gambling our absence wouldn’t be missed. In short, the response from readers, friends, and long time collaborators was overwhelming and clear: many feel this project is important and should continue. We appreciate all of the incredibly kind words and those who took the time to reach out to us.
With this encouragement in mind, we have decided to continue publishing at It’s Going Down and operating the platform for the near future. Going forward, we want to focus on quality over quantity and also attempt to cultivate again a culture of report-backs and movement journalism as we go into the second Trump period. We also realize that this isn’t 2017 anymore; the site may be updated less as it has been in the past.
We also want to salute all of the new (and old) anarchist and autonomous media projects that have sprung up in the last few years: hopefully we can continue to be part of a burgeoning grassroots media eco-system where we learn and grow from each other.
A few updates:
- The columns In Contempt and This Week in Fascism will continue to appear on It’s Going Down. If you are interested in pitching another column idea, please reach out to us at: info [at] itsgoingdown [dot] org. In exchange, the folks at CrimethInc. made us give up all our best vinyl and wash all their dishes, but it was worth it.
- Our social media accounts on Mastodon and Blue Sky will continue to post regularly.
- We will continue to publish submissions sent to us. Going forward, we are especially looking for report-backs, movement analysis, and editorials aimed at the wider public.
- We will continue to update our event calendar.
- While we have a few episodes of This Is America that are yet to be released, we encourage people to check out the new podcast, The Beautiful Idea, of which, future episodes will be posted here.
- We will continue to update the IGD zine generator feature. Expect more updates soon.
Moreover, if you are interested in contributing to the columns In Contempt, which features a roundup of news, action, and updates about political prisoners, repression, and abolition, or This Week in Fascism, which discusses the far-Right and antifascist resistance to it, please reach out to us at: info [at] itsgoingdown [dot] org. Have other ideas? Drop us a line!
Lastly, since folks have asked if they could help donate to support our work, we want to instead encourage people to donate and help sustain mutual aid and autonomous infrastructure in their local areas. If you can, also consider helping these organizations and their work:
- Mutual Aid Disaster Relief
- Anarchist Black Cross (ABC)
- International Antifascist Defense Fund
- The Final Straw
- Sub.Media
Life, finds a way. So will we. See you soon.

You have to keep this thing going. It's not an idle thought to imagine who would fill every shoe at "It's Going Down" if you were to step away.
You may wonder about this comment. It is about one reason I am glad you will continue: it is about what happens when the crew abandons ship: the world can not afford yet another honeypot.
Whenever a publication goes down, the CIA (or another dot gov) is literally waiting with a full staff to "keep it running". I have seen this up close, and know who is whom. You might look up Marilyn Webb who was among the feminists paid by CIA to use sex to undermine war resistance, along with a playboy model who was more famous, Gloria Steinem.
In her continuing adventures, Marilyn was an uninvited guest at the deathbed of a small town publisher hoping to take over the *name* of his newspaper. He then wrote in his will that "The Zephyr" would die with him, because he knew the truth. Her plan was to be the founder of a new journalism school at Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, where she would also be known as editor of The Zephyr. Ever since Mary Eysenbach arrived as Dean from her internship at CIA, it's been an open secret who runs Knox College. In charge of the computer network is former military intelligence. So now they must absolutely have a new journalism school, while journalism schools are not doing well at all.
It's been a long slide down since 1953 when CIA decided all publications must submit to their hegemony. When a publication - any publication - has an opening, they are ready to fill it, like they have filled the New York Times full of shit for 72 years. Also, They are hiring fiction writers. They have been hiring fiction writers for a long time, and some are really good.
I'm a fan of Jerzy Kosiński, but he's a lifelong liar, and the CIA brought him to the US after an amazing literary accomplishment within the communist bureaucracy.
"The first blow came in the form of a Village Voice article entitled "Jerzy Kosinski's Tainted Words." (explained here)
Notice the absence of the ever truthful Village Voice today. Supposedly someone is trying to bring it back, but not the way it was.
The CIA has been hiring literary types ever since Dulles & Co picked it up from the OSS.
It's not unnatural that many end up in academia, after a long journey.
It's not an idle thought to imagine who would fill every shoe at "It's Going Down" if you were to step away.
so yeah, it's kinda cool that you will continue...
Let me know if you find a copy of "Jerzy Kosiński's Tainted Words. There might be a printed version available from 1982. There are plenty of archives from 1982 on the web, but some didn't make the cut.
