GLIDE is pleased to welcome back, in person, the annual GLIDE Legacy Gala and celebrate the GLIDE Legacy Awards on Saturday, August 14 at Terra Gallery in San Francisco. A combination in-person event and virtual gathering, the 12th GLIDE Legacy Gala will bring supporters back together for an evening to reconnect and recommit to creating positive change to the community. Supporters will have their choice of attending in person (under current COVID-19 protocols) or streaming the event at home.

The 2021 GLIDE Legacy Awards honor two remarkable individuals who embody GLIDE’s values, including unconditional love, standing for the people and commitment to fighting systemic injustice. Aimee Allison, founder of She the People, will receive the Rev. Cecil Williams Legacy Award, for her work in elevating the voice and power of women of color. Dr. Connie Wun, co-founder of AAPI Women Lead, will receive the Janice Mirikitani Legacy Award for her lifelong commitment to ending racial and gender-based violence.

The evening includes delicious refreshments and entertainment from The GLIDE Ensemble, DJ King Most, and Catalyst Arts Aerialist. A panel discussion moderated by Priya David Clemens, host of KQED’s Newsroom will include GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan and the awardees with a focus on the resiliency and unique character of the San Francisco Bay Area and addressing rising inequities through community building and the empowerment and elevation of marginalized groups.

"GLIDE continues to build on nearly 60 years of activism, adapting and innovating, with evidenced-based solutions to address society’s most pressing issues—inequality, poverty, homelessness, and systemic racism," said GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan. "We are working directly with those who in need, expanding our reach across the city, and changing hearts and minds in public and private systems to build empathy and transform lives. Join us to help more individuals and families off the streets, into self-sufficiency and thrive for good.”

Past Legacy Award honorees have included Michael Franti, Amanda Gorman, Vice President Kamala Harris, Van Jones, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Mpumi Nobiva, Lateefah Simon, Alicia Garza, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Jeremy Affeldt, Renel Brooks-Moon, Chip Conley, Vernon Davis, Dave Eggers, Chris Gardner, Chinaka Hodge, Felicia Horowitz, Shaka Senghor, Shiza Shahid, Andres Torres, and Kristi Yamaguchi.

The GLIDE Legacy Committee is striving to raise $100,000 through ticket sales, crowdfunding and lead-up events that will support GLIDE's critical work in San Francisco, which includes providing thousands of free meals a week, harm reduction outreach, behavioral health counseling, rental assistance, spiritual community, and more.

A donation of any amount (suggested minimum donation of $25) will grant attendees access to the 12th Annual GLIDE Legacy Gala livestream, featuring a virtual panel discussion and live Q&A with the honorees plus additional entertainment. General Admission tickets start at $120 and include exclusive entry to the in-person event at Terra Gallery. Sponsorships begin at $500. Thank you to Empower Sponsor Zendesk and Patron Sponsor Emily Cohen.

Sponsors will be acknowledged on the GLIDE Legacy Gala event invitation, website, email communications, event signage, press and social media outreach, and have exclusive access to preferred volunteer opportunities at GLIDE. This year, sponsors have the unique opportunity to upgrade their Legacy Gala Sponsorship Package to also include sponsorship of GLIDE’s premier fundraising event on November 18, 2021, the GLIDE Holiday Jam.
