Fisher, STOP THE GREED! ILWU 10 & Community Activists Speak Out To Protest Port Theft

by Labor Video Project
A press conference was held at the Howard Terminal in the Port of Oakland to oppose the sale of the terminal to billionaire John Fisher, owner of GAP and the A's for a stadium and 3,000 condos.

Oakland community residents and ILWU Local 10 leaders spoke out about the plan to privatize the Howard Terminal in the Port of Oakland.
Community members and unionists are angry that this theft of public land would destroy the working port and gentrify West Oakland for the wealth while benefiting John Fisher who is owner of the A's, the GAP and also controls the KIPP and Rocketship charter schools.

This event took place on July 19, the day before a vote at the Oakland City Council on the transfer of the Howard Terminal to the A’s owner John Fisher.

§Alameda Bld Trades ED Andreas Cluver Supports Privatizing The Port
by Labor Video Project

Andreas Clever who is Executive Secretary of the Alameda Building Trades and President of the Port of Oakland is fully supporting the destruction of the working port so billionaire John Fisher can build a stadium, hotels and 3,000 million dollar condos that will gentrify West Oakland. He has refused to meet with the ILWU and other Martime workers who are mostly Black and Brown. Many of the Building Trades workers cannot even afford to live in Oakland because of massive gentrification.
At the same time more than 50% of the construction workers in Oakland are unorganized yet he is willing to destroy maritime jobs for a stadium. Previously he worked as a government agent in Africa pushing US imperialist economic policies for US corporations.

The legacy of Democrat Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff and that of John Fischer, her Republican extortionist friend worth $3.123 billion, owner of the organized crime racket called a baseball team, the Oakland As, will be clearly the destruction of the Port of Oakland, which provides billions of dollars of goods to all of NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. If we have no Port, our goods will have to come by truck or rail from Los Angeles, and the loss of jobs here will be extraordinary. These stadium swindles only have minimum wage food concession jobs. Building concentration camps also creates jobs. Perhaps Libby Schaff and John Fischer should be reminded of that.

We had a similar nightmare in San Francisco in 1997 with the 49er Stadium Swindle, but it did not threaten our port, which is just for passenger ships. The 49er football team moved to Santa Clara after they committed in election fraud in the June 3, 1997 election. That election fraud included murdering a poll worker, Dolores Evans, and 5 children, in a mysterious fire in their Housing Authority home from which the fire department said they could have escaped but someone stopped them, just before Evans was to testify in an election fraud lawsuit in December 1997.

The Giants baseball team perform in a hideous monstrosity at the end of Second Street at King Street, where they play 36 games a year, and the rest of the time, their stadium swindle, owned by a private corporation, is for rent. We, the taxpayers pay for the public transportation, police, fire, water, sewer in and around the stadium swindle. The Democrats and Republicans supported the 49er Stadium Swindle; Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party opposed the 49er Stadium Swindle AND THAT IS ALWAYS TRUE.

All professional sports, including baseball, football, basketball, soccer and boxing, are organized crime, extortionist, gambling rackets.

The rich already have a home; they do not need more. It should be illegal to build anything on the water as climate change is causing rising seas.

Hopefully, the 400,000 residents of Oakland will turn out at the City Council meeting to stop this madness.

TELL EXTORTIONIST JOHN FISCHER TO LEAVE TOWN RIGHT NOW AND TAKE HIS ORGANIZED CRIME GAMBLING RACKET AKA BASEBALL TEAM WITH HIM NOW.

The Democrats at the Oakland City Council put their reactionary politics on display with 6 of them voting in favor of the stadium swindle and 1 abstaining. All 6 of them should resign. The only No vote was Noel Gallo and Carroll Fife abstained. See
https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/07/20/update-oakland-city-council-votes-6-1-in-favor-of-amended-term-sheet-for-howard-terminal-stadium-plan/

You can read the biographies of these council members at https://www.oaklandca.gov/officials

This is considered a non-binding vote but it is a slap in the face to all thinking people The above CBS article has quotes from the opponents of this stadium swindle. This stadium swindle will destroy the Port of Oakland, and if that happens, all of Northern California will suffer a declining economy.
