Unlike backward Texas, California requires mask wearing in the classrooms and everywhere else, social distancing of all desks with plastic partitions, and open windows, requiring the children to wear extra clothing to keep from freezing in freezing cold San Francisco. Fortunately, children are not as bothered by the cold as adults. Health checkups are done at the school and the teachers are vaccinated before showing up at school. The children also get free food. California also has good statistics allowing us to reopen. You should follow:

Slide down the right scroll bar to San Francisco COVID 19 Data Tracker, Click on it.
You will get https://data.sfgov.org/stories/s/fjki-2fab
It says San Francisco has had 502 deaths in 12 months, overwhelmingly people over 60, and especially over 75, in a city of 892,000 people. It also says there are currently 23 people hospitalized with COVID19 in a city with about 2,000 hospital beds.
Scroll down to Key Public Health Indicators. Click on it. You will see our statistics are good. These are updated daily and as you can see, some have a time lag. Click out of this to the previous page, https://data.sfgov.org/stories/s/fjki-2fab. Go to Population Characteristics.

Scroll down Population Characteristics on the right side to Age: Deaths by Age Group. You will see it is the old who are dying, as we die of all diseases, sometimes as mild as the common cold as our lungs are weak. It is also true that people who have weak immune systems, such as cancer, can die if they are not careful. Old age is by definition a decline in the immune system. That is why everyone, regardless of age, should take lots of Vitamin C, available in all fruits and vegetables as Vitamin C strengthens the immune system that protects us from COVID19, the common cold, cancer, Alzheimer's, the flu, and many other diseases. All adults can take 500 mg right after breakfast and 500 mg right after dinner. Everyone of all ages can have a multivitamin a day, either pill or liquid. Everyone should also avoid alcohol, tobacco and all drugs not being used to treat a disease as they all weaken the immune system. And of course, everyone should get as much exercise as they can do. Children are real good at exercise as they are in constant motion.

Scroll to the top or go back to the previous page to click on Hospital Capacity. You will see that as of April 8, 2021, San Francisco has 3 COVID19 patients in intensive care and 23 COVID19 patients in acute care out of 2,000 hospital beds. We are ready to reopen the grammar schools as the little ones are the least likely to be adversely affected.

It is clearly the vaccines that have made the statistics improve dramatically. Go to https://data.sfgov.org/stories/s/fjki-2fab
Click on Vaccinations Overview. You will see that San Francisco has a 7-day average of 13,000 vaccinations a day. We have a capacity of 20,000 vaccinations a day; we are just waiting for the supply increase. You will see in the first chart that 56% of San Franciscans over age 16 have had at least 1 dose of the vaccine and 83% of those over age 65 have had at least 1 dose, with 68% having had 2 doses as of April 10, 2021. The Pfizer vaccine is tolerable. The first dose was not a problem and you can be up and running the next day. The second dose required more rest, for 3-4 days, after receiving it, although you can sit up and take nourishment and shuffle around the house. This is this old, non-athletic person's reaction. The younger you are; the easier it is to tolerate vaccines.

The teachers who are over 60 should retire as COVID19 is not disappearing and quite frankly, age 60 should be the retirement age for everyone.
