It is certainly worthy to protest the killing of turkeys as no one needs this fattening bird and the whole holiday is a celebration of genocide anyway but 46 million turkeys equal to 13% of 332 million Americans. Most people who participate in this nonsense, this year being a disease Superspreader event, do not buy more than an 18 pound turkey, considered small. Many only buy parts. An 18 pound turkey is enough for 4 people. This fattening bird takes almost 4 hours to cook, which amounts to slavery for the person who does the cooking, mostly women. What is most outrageous is that this celebration of genocide is now apparently a week long event, EXACTLY ONE MONTH BEFORE the next disease Superspreader event, the MONEY SEASON, which is even worse in its conspicuous consumption and promotion of fattening food. In the workingclass neighborhoods, including mine, neither holiday has any meaning. This is for the homeowner class to show off their wealth, often acquired at the expense of the tenant workingclass.
The so-called progressive San Francisco public school system is closed for this genocidal holiday, at taxpayer expense ( a holiday means we pay salaries but nothing gets done) for an ENTIRE WEEK. This is followed in December with 2 weeks for the Money Season, 2 week days for Mid-Winter Break-Feb 12 & 15, 1 week for Spring Break, March 29 to April 2, and legal holidays, namely King's birthday the 3rd Monday in January and President's Day, the 3rd Monday in February, Memorial Day, 4th Monday in May, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, Indigenous People/Columbus Genocide day, the second Monday in October and Veterans War Celebration day, November 11. In addition, there are now at least 2 weeks of required standardized tests so that the school year starts by August 15 to accommodate all of this lack of teaching. It might interest those who have only experienced this farce of a school system that it was not always like this. In the 1950s and 1960s, we had 2 days off for Thanksgiving genocide celebration, already too much, and no Mid-Winter break. School started after September 9, California's Admission Day. There were no required standardized tests. Considering there is so much acrimony at these family gatherings, Thanksgiving should be called a November holiday and be the 4th Monday in November. And the sooner people stop celebrating the Money Season, the sooner this hysterical profiteering racket will disappear. Ideally, school at all levels should be three 15 weeks sessions, with everyone advancing by semester for each required course if they get at least a C in that course, and if not just repeat that course. Standardized tests should be abolished as they are just profit-making rackets for the testing companies. For San Francisco school district's holidays so far, see:
