Trade Unionists, activists and community members in San Francisco protested at the San Francisco Labor Council Martin Luther King breakfast on January 20, 2020.

Trade unionists and community members talked about the systemic racism and gentrification in San Francisco and the failure to confront it by the leadership of the San Francisco labor movement.

Delegates also talked about SEIU 1021 and IFPTE Local 21 opposing a $2.7 million appropriation from the City and County of San Francisco for refunding of over 300 classes that have been canceled by SF City College Mark Rocha and the CCSF Board of Trustees who are in favor of "downsizing" the community college.

Also former IBT VP and Joint Council 7 President Rome Aloice denied that IBT 350 member Daryl Washington had contacted him to get support to oppose his termination for reporting a hanging noose at SF Recology.

On tape, we heard (white) Teamster Joint Council president Rome Aloice tell the interviewer "you are full of shit" when questioned about why he did nothing to help the whistleblower recover his job when he was fired for complaining about the hanging noose. This is hoodlum, organized crime, thug talk. In the Sunday, SF Examiner, 1/19/20, we read on page 11, Sasha Perigo's column, Democratic Mayor London Breed telling us that she wants to use "tough love" on the homeless, in other words, criminalize the homeless. The term "tough love" is a hoodlum, thug term that no public official should ever use. As stated above, the viciously anti-workingclass darling of the real estate gentrification gang, Democratic State Senator Scott Weiner, was busy glad-handing the audience to drum up votes. We saw people wearing suits at what was supposed to be a labor event, demonstrating that it was an anti-labor event. Anyone who does not do physical labor does not need more than 600 calories per meal, so watching these well-fed labor lieutenants of capitalism and their Democratic Party politician friends stuff their fat faces with a 1,000 calorie breakfast with the money paid by workers in their union dues was an outrageous insult. Right outside the door of this Marriott Hotel are the homeless, as they are everywhere in San Francisco. I doubt these fat cats even bothered to carry out the left overs to give to the homeless. Every table had a huge basket with bread, and there is always real butter served with the bread. That is why this writer votes Peace & Freedom or Green in every election. Neither the Democrats nor the labor lieutenants of capitalism are capable of delivering the goods and services we, the workingclass, the 80% of Americans who sell our labor for less than $80,000 a year, need. The Labor Council certainly has the money, starting with the $1500 per table times 100 tables, I believe, to run tutoring programs for all students who are failing in the public schools, which by the test scores, are mostly (not all) black and brown students. They also have the means to raise money to build affordable housing for the workingclass. The homeless crisis started in 1980, under Democrat Pres. Carter. It was inspiring to see this protest, right inside this feast of the fat cats.
