San Francisco’s World Refugee Day-The public is invited to an afternoon of cultural performances, international food, music, speakers, a talent show, a costume show and more to celebrate the courage and contributions of refugees, and reaffirm San Francisco’s commitment to integrating immigrants and remaining a Sanctuary City and a Welcoming Community.
The afternoon event is supported by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and San Francisco Human Services Agency and is hosted by Arriba Juntos and SF-Coalition of Asylee, Immigrant, and Refugee Services (SF-CAIRS).

BACKGROUND:
World Refugee Day has been marked on June 20 ever since the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 55/76 in December 2000 where it noted that 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, and that the Organization of African Unity (OAU) had agreed to have International Refugee Day coincide with Africa Refugee Day on June 20.
The afternoon event is supported by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and San Francisco Human Services Agency and is hosted by Arriba Juntos and SF-Coalition of Asylee, Immigrant, and Refugee Services (SF-CAIRS).
