Info: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/eve/5431158713.html

On Sunday, February 7 at about 5 to 5:30 pm: join in on a Superbowl halftime recreational football toss in the Marina; near Chestnut at Buchanan Strees; behind Moscone Recreation Ctr on the grass playing field north of it.

Take a break from watching the Superbowl during half time in San Francisco's Marina (or skip the game altogether!).

Toss a football around in the sunshine and fresh air! And in doing so, "walk the walk" of SF values: peace, love, compassion, creativity and fun vs. the money, power, violence and injuries caused by tackle football!

Bring your own football or join with others who've brought theirs.

This event asks the question: Is the Superbowl consistent with San Francisco values?

Professional football today appears to celebrate not so much the core game of throwing, catching, running and kicking a football, as it does money, power and violence that damages the brains of its players. And that is the template for all levels of football in this country.

The San Francisco I know and love embraces peace, love, compassion, creativity and fun. While the football extravaganza is in town, I hope that San Francisco values rub off on it. Imagine football evolving into a sport over time that does not permanently damage the brains of its players. Imagine the ripple effect of a non-violent form of football on American society and values.

So on Super Sunday, get out into the sunshine predicted for that day and throw around a football with friends, family, neighbors and others. And hope for the evolution football into a more humane game.

In February, it is almost dark at 5 p.m. and it is usually cold, below 70 degrees. I have never and will never toss a football at any time of the day. I have always been a cultured, well-read, opera loving person in an opera town with one of the best opera companies in the US, at first class level with Chicago and New York. I have over 150 opera DVDs and much more classical music. At 5 p.m., I am done with my daytime activities, which on a Sunday in February may start by doing my taxes, and then going out for a walk, enjoying Chinese New Year in Chinatown, which is January 21-February 21 enjoying the beautiful blossoming branches and oranges, nectarines and grapefruit everywhere on Stockton Street and a festival on Grant Avenue. I prepare dinner at 5 pm that is low fat and low calorie, completely devoid of all the junk food and of course no alcohol that is promoted with Stupid Bowl as I care about my health, not anyone's profits, and listen to classical music until I fall asleep, preparing for the next day, a work day. Believe it or not, the majority of Americans have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the organized crime, fixed gambling racket, with its accompanying wife-beating that occurs on Super Sunday since professional football is a viciously anti-women horror show. It is also Heart Attack Sunday and Drunk Driving Day. See http://www.huffingtonpost.com/a-marc-gillinov-md/personal-health_b_4695163.html

The majority of Americans NEVER WATCH FOOTBALL. People are known by the company they keep. When you associate with people that avoid the football garbage, you become a better person. Try it; you'll like it.
