4th Tuesday Films presents Pink Ribbons, Inc.

A look at pink ribbon campaigns and how corporations (both for and non profit) capitalize on an emotional women’s health issue. Breast cancer has been deemed a “dream cause” for companies who wrap their products in pink for profit while some of those companies produce items for women that contain carcinogens and dangerous chemicals. History of campaigns are explored including the use of militaristic terms such as warrior, battle, etc., the promotion of enthusiasm and happiness, referred to as a tyranny of cheerfulness, used to mask a serious issue and alienate others. This is contrasted with grass roots environmental justice campaigns that demand a focus on prevention and research into environmental causes. Viewers also get a glimpse of how the cause is exported to other countries and used for faux diplomacy in the Middle East. But lastly we are left wondering where does all the money go?

Film is free, discussion to follow.
