Attention Parents, Teachers, Administrators, Classroom Aides, High School and College Students, the 5th annual conference, Creating a Peaceful School, is now taking registrations. This year's topic is "Creating a Peaceful School: School Climate, Classroom Community, and Student Voice". It is a daylong opportunity to explore how to craft a welcoming and inclusive school climate, to build a caring and supportive classroom community, and to empower and respect student voice.
This year's keynote speaker is Fania Davis, Ph.D., J.D., Founder and Executive Director of RJOY (Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth). She will speak on "Elevating Students' Voices through Restorative Justice". Davis is a long-time social justice activist, a restorative justice scholar, professor and civil rights attorney with a Ph.D. in indigenous knowledge. She has taught Restorative Justice at San Francisco's New College Law School and Indigenous Peacemaking at Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding.
Breakout sessions are relevant to elementary and secondary educators, school personnel and students. They will focus on sharing learning strategies, classroom lessons and school-wide ideas. Continuing Education Units from St. Mary's College of Moraga will be available for an additional small fee. Additional information is available on the website.
$50 General Public / $10 Students / $40 Center members.
