Often a symbol of birth, potentiality, and life, the world seems to lie within a seed itself, but as industrial agriculture enters its next phase with the advent of genetically modified organisms, the potentiality of life itself is being controlled and patented by corporations. 'Bitter Seeds' follows the lives of two Indian families in the village of Telung Takli, in the state of Maharashtra. Faced with mounting debt and the false promise of Monsanto's Bt cotton, one family is struggling from becoming another farmer suicide statistic, while the father of the second family has already killed himself, leaving behind his wife and daughter. Come join us for an insightful and poignant look into globalization, the transgenic world, and the perseverance of the common people.
