Oppose Recall of Tracy Rosenberg, KPFA/Pacifica Board member
On New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, 2011, I opened my mailbox to find a vicious kick in the teeth from the Hate Pacifica Gang, an expensive multi-color, carefully contrived, slick mailer, calling for the recall of an outstanding, very intelligent young lady now on the KPFA Local Station Board and Pacifica National Board, Tracy Rosenberg. PLEASE VOTE NO ON THE RECALL OF TRACY ROSENBERG
PLEASE VOTE NO ON THE RECALL OF TRACY ROSENBERG.
In my world, and that of probably all other listeners to KPFA over age 60, a significant percentage of the listeners, the name “Rosenberg” refers to a couple, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who literally gave their lives so that we may have such things as non-commercial Pacifica/KPFA, by defending their innocence against the false and phony charges of conspiracy to commit atomic espionage made against them by the Democratic Truman administration in 1950 to promote the war of anti-Communism in Korea, or as Julius Rosenberg stated, to make Jews, Communist and traitor synonymous. They were murdered by the fascist American government on June 19, 1953, leaving behind 2 small children. This is the government that is proudly promoted by the government operation that is the Hate Pacifica Gang which is sponsoring this expensive recall, which will fail if and only if you vote as there are more opponents of this Gang than there are the Gangsters.
While many of the members of the Hate Pacifica Gang may claim the connection to the very famous Rosenberg-Sobell case has nothing to do with this recall, they are wrong. It is the same anti-Semitic, fascist, warmongering, anti-labor government. It has not changed one iota, whether a Democratic or Republican president is in office. Tracy Rosenberg is part of a outstanding group of Local Station Board members who are all dedicated equally to saving KPFA and Pacifica from the destruction of the government operatives best known as the Hate Pacifica Gang, who use the false and stolen name, savekpfa.
As to the slick mailer, mostly likely paid for by the millionaire Hallinans, currently sitting on the Local Station Board, who apparently can use the KPFA membership list for mailers, mailing to the 20,000 or so subscribers, which mailing must have cost at least $20,000 for printing and mailing, there is enough general knowledge that this writer can refute the contrived charges on the address side of this fascist garbage which wasted lots of trees.
1. They use the term “regime” as though it is a gang of tyrants, when in fact under the leadership of Arlene Engelhardt, Pacifica’s Executive Director, and Interim General Manager, Andrew Phillips, the programming has vastly improved. Again, “regime” is a term used by the capitalist class, such as promoting “regime change” and condemning “communist regimes.” This is not a term of the Left.
2. The Pacifica Foundation is a non-profit corporation. To use a term like “corporation” without the word “non-profit” implies that it is a private profit corporation. This tells the reader that this is clearly a government operation, the latest of many attacks on Pacifica.
3. The support of the changes at KPFA comes from the listeners, who continue to subscribe to KPFA, and they were necessitated by the massive till-tapping by the Hate Pacifica Gang and their beauty queen phony general manager who finally had to leave after an auditor discovered a large check in a drawer that had not been cashed in a year.
4. We are proud of the fact that Al-Jazeera can now be heard on American radio, via the Pacifica network, free of charge to Pacifica, heard currently on KPFA from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. The old Morning Show, heard from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., had paid staff which cost Pacifica money which they no longer had. Al-Jazeera came at a fortuitous time, the Arab Spring, and continues to be an important news source. As we know, reactionary USA does not have Al-Jazeera on Comcast because it is effectively censored in this backward country that is not open to all sources of news, proving the USA is not a democracy but a fascist dictatorship.
5. Democracy Now was moved from 6 a.m. to 7 am., a better timeslot for all of us, who may be early risers, but not that early! It now reaches a broader audience at 7 a.m.
6. The Morning Mix from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. is a golden opportunity for local programmers to finally be in the spotlight once a week for an entire hour, heard by radio in most of the 9 counties of the San Francisco Bay Area, consisting of 7 million people, and by the entire world online. This is how we develop new programming, by giving volunteers a chance to be heard.
7. The fundraising has improved. Pitting one show against another is a privatization scheme, favored by the capitalist class that wants to destroy Pacifica. There are many good shows on KPFA whose listeners simply do not have a lot of money. We contribute to the station, not to a specific show.
8. Tracy Rosenberg and Pacifica did not conduct illegal and retaliatory layoffs, and the NLRB has confirmed that fact by tossing all the charges.
9. Pacifica was forced to spend money on a management law firm to defend itself against all the NLRB charges by the Hate Pacifica Gang, and this Gang knew the charges were false but filed them anyway for the specific goal of again draining Pacifica of funds, as is their goal of this recall. These government operatives are trying everything they can to put an end to Pacifica by draining it financially.
10. The retirement contribution issue was explained by Tracy Rosenberg at
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/12/30/18703655.php
As she states “All payments are now current and have been for months.” She also states that the late payment problem occurred on the watch of proud members of the Hate Pacifica Gang.
11. Dan Siegel, the reactionary lawyer who is best known for promoting police in Oakland public schools, was challenged for sitting on the Local Station Board and Pacifica National Board at the same time he was an advisor to Oakland Mayor Quan, which is illegal under Pacifica bylaws. Since he clearly has friends in high places, he won his lawsuit against Pacifica. The fact remains, it was illegal to have him sit on these boards while he was an advisor to Mayor Quan. The lawsuit is Burnstein v Pacifica, Alameda County Superior Court No. RG11562056 filed February 18, 2011. The plaintiffs include many members of the Local Station Board who deserve to be defeated in the next election: Malcolm Burnstein, Pamela Drake, David Gans, Suzi Goldmacher, Conn Hallinan, Matthew Hallinan, Jack Kurzweil, Laura Prives, Tanya Russell, Lewis Sawyer, Dan Siegel, Andrea Turner, Margy Wilkinson and Rychard Withers.
Flipping the slick mailer to the endorsement side, the stench becomes more obvious. The name in bright red letters that hits all knowledgeable people in the eye is Brian Edwards-Tiekert, the part-time news announcer who, along with another name listed, Mitch Jeserich, and Lewis Sawyer, hired or had hired for them, a Republican Party law firm, Dhillon and Smith, with Ms. Dhillon being the Chair of the San Francisco Republican Party, to file a lawsuit against Pacifica on December 1, 2010 in Alameda County, No. RG10549212, concerning disputes over the 200-person staff election, costing Pacifica money to defend itself. If there were problems with the staff election, it could simply be redone; there was no need for this lawsuit. This money-wasting lawsuit was finally dismissed June 7, 2011.
Brian Edwards-Tiekert was a Morning Show host, a part-time employee of Pacifica for the sum of $25,000 a year plus fully paid medical benefits, unheard of such benefits for part-time employees anywhere else, who had low seniority and when the Morning Show proved unaffordable, he used his bumping rights according to the union contract to take a position as news announcer in the evening at 6 p.m. His friend, John Hamilton, who was bumped, managed to stay as others gave up some of their hours.
The most important name on this List of Shame is Larry Bensky, the leading light of the Hate Pacifica Gang, a former programmer at KPFA and former editor of the CIA’s Paris Review. Here is more on Larry Bensky:

And you seem very confused on many points, but please note the fine manager you attack in point three is the same person you praise in point four, because she was the one who helped bring Al-Jazeera to KPFA.
Here is some information from the outstanding Tracy Rosenberg, a leading vote recipient in the last Local Station Board elections, on the improved finances at KPFA since the Morning Show was ended, replaced by the lineup of 6 a.m. Al Jazeera, 7 a.m. Democracy Now and 8 a.m. the Morning Mix:

And here is financial information from the December 26, 2011 email from Manager Andrew Phillips to the subscribers:
KPFA's Financial Recovery
With your help, we made real progress this year. Although we showed about a $38k operating loss, this was a BIG improvement over the previous two years.
We did it without starting our Fall 2011 fund drive in September as we had to do in 2009 & 2010 when we ran out of cash in September.
(Because our fiscal year ends September 30th, this means we did it this year with 3-1/2 major fund drives -- half of Fall 2010 + Winter, Spring & Summer 2011 -- rather than the usual 4 major drives because of the income distribution across fiscal years. In 2009 we actually had 4-1/2 major fund drives -- Fall 2008 + Winter, Spring & Summer 2009 + half of Fall 2009. In 2010 we had 4 major fund drives -- half of Fall 2009 + Winter, Spring & Summer 2010 + half of Fall 2010.)
While the staff reductions and belt tightening have been hard on all of us -- and the cause of some contention around here -- we are hopeful that we've turned the corner and that this fiscal year will end in the black. With your generous support and the hard work of our great paid and unpaid staff & volunteers, we're showing that we can do more with less in these lean times.

An overview of the past decade shows that the major problem has been a precipitous drop in listener support income from just over $4 million in 2005 to a little under $3 million for the past three years.
Unfortunately, we waited too long to take the painful step of reducing our payroll. The payroll grew with income in the first half of the last decade, but was not reduced as income started declining in 2006. The payroll peaked in 2009 at almost $2.5 million. Over the past two years we've cut back to about $1.9 million -- bringing our expenses more in line with our income.
However, because KPFA lost over $1.4 million in 2009 & 2010, we used up all of our reserves and ran up considerable debt. So, for the next couple of years we not only need to raise enough money to cover our expenses, we also must raise money to pay down our debts. So the tight belts will continue for the foreseeable future.
**************
READ THAT AGAIN: KPFA HAS NO RESERVES BECAUSE THE HATE PACIFICA GANG THAT WAS THE MAJORITY ON THE KPFA LOCAL STATION BOARD, IN CAHOOTS WITH ITS TILL-TAPPING MANAGER, LEMLEM RIJIO, ALLOWED THE RESERVES TO BE USED TO DRAIN KPFA OF FUNDS IN A CLEAR, ALMOST SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO DESTROY PACIFICA, WHICH HOLDS THE LICENSE.
YOU WILL NOTICE THAT ONLY ONE PERSON IS BEING RECALLED WHILE THE CHANGES WERE MADE BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ARLENE ENGLEHARDT, AND SUPPORTED BY EVERY DECENT PERSON WHO WANTS KPFA AND PACIFICA TO EXIST. Clearly, the purpose of this vicious attack on an outstanding young lady, Tracy Rosenberg, who cannot possibly be responsible for everything at KPFA, or even some things, as it is a collective effort, is to drain KPFA of funds, the same reason for all the false NLRB charges, and they were all knowingly false by the perpetrators. It is not a regime; that is the term of the fascist USA government.
We listen to KPFA carefully, and read everything we can so we know exactly what is going on. We also know the history of many of the Hate Pacifica Gang members and find their participation in this government operation to recall Tracy Rosenberg and destroy Pacifica to be despicable, unforgivable and unforgettable. We are voting NO ON THE RECALL OF TRACY ROSENBERG.
If you are a KPFA listener-member, watch your mail for a recall ballot. Thanks to a grassroots campaign for local control, Pacifica treasurer Tracy Rosenberg is facing a recall.
Then, VOTE YES on the recall, which is endorsed by: Aileen Alfandary, News Co-Director | Tina Bachemin, KPFA Reporter | Larry Bensky, Pacifica National Affairs Correspondent (1987-2007) | Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Native American historian | Dana Frank, Professor of History, UCSC | Brian Edwards-Tiekert, KPFA News | Rose Ketabchi, Free Speech Radio News | Ying Lee, Asian-Americans for Peace and Justice | Sasha Lilley, Against the Grain (Shop Steward, CWA Local 9415) | Philip Maldari, The Sunday Show (Shop Steward, CWA Local 9415) | Joanna Manqueros, Music of the World | Diana Martinez, Letters and Politics | Lynn Hollander Savio, Mario Savio Memorial Lecture & Young Activist Award | Dan Siegel, Activist and KPFA Board Member …and many other KPFA listeners and workers.
If you do not receive a ballot by 12/30/11, contact us at votesavekpfa [at] gmail.com or leave us a message at (510) 969-9373.
Why Recall Rosenberg?
Pacifica treasurer Tracy Rosenberg has been the principal defender of the current regime at Pacifica, the corporation that owns KPFA. With Rosenberg’s support, that regime has declared war on KPFA’s listeners and workers. It has:
purged KPFA’s biggest fundraiser and most listened-to local program (The Morning Show), causing morning pledges to drop by more than half and putting the station’s fragile finances at risk
conducted illegal, retaliatory layoffs
wasted more than $80,000 of listener money on an anti-union law firm
diverted workers’ retirement contributions for other purposes
slapped gag rules on KPFA’s staff
illegally barred KPFA’s elected representatives from taking their seats on Pacifica’s Board.
Impartial oversight of vote still in question
After an outpouring of listener pressure, management finally certified the recall election to proceed, but has been vague about how it will conduct the vote, or if it will follow Pacifica’s own rules and mail the ballots before year’s end. Hundreds of KPFA listeners signed the recall petition, which lays out the charges of election fraud, email theft, and the destruction of programming by Rosenberg. Hundreds more have signed a second petition demanding that a neutral third party oversee the vote.
Many who signed expressed their frustration with Pacifica’s actions against KPFA, led by treasurer Rosenberg and executive director Arlene Engelhardt. For instance, listener Fred Hosea writes: “The dysfunction, drama, loss of listener support, and mismanagement of the past year amount to an intolerable failure, with Tracy Rosenberg and Arlene Engelhardt at the corrupting center. Rosenberg must go with all due haste, with Engelhardt to follow.”
Also, see several articles at http://www.danielborgstrom.com including a link to an article by Robbie Osman going some way in explaining why polished-broadcasters would work so hard to control it all.
THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE. We are dealing with an American public CONDITIONED to not voting. That is why the Hate Pacifica Gang is carrying out this attack on Pacifica. They do not have the majority of the 20,000 subscribers but only 6,000 or so bother voting, and then only when there is a major election at the Local Station Board. This recall may only wake up perhaps 3,000 people or less.
WE NEED ON AIR INTERVIEWS OF TRACY ROSENBERG AND HER SUPPORTERS THIS WEEK. There can be no delay; Fascist Obama just signed a fascist law permitting indefinite detention, proudly supported by the Democratic Party which is also the party of the Hate Pacifica gang. We are dealing with a government attack on an important voice critical of fascism in the USA. Pacifica has been under government attack its entire existence, and this is the latest government attack. As you can see from the article, the leading light of this gang is Larry Bensky, who is clearly a lifelong government operative. He was reactionary when he was a KPFA programmer, and he still is.
NO SLEEP WALKING IS ALLOWED IN THE FACE OF FASCISM. The German people did not have the advantage of history that we have. This is not some game over who has the license or local control or playing favorites with programmers or any other fantasy. There are no "charges" brought against Tracy Rosenberg on the slick mailer. There is an admitted attack on the entire Pacifica operation, which they call a "regime," a fascist term. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM TRACY ROSENBERG AND HER SUPPORTERS THIS WEEK ON KPFA.
