"Tax the Rich" Human Banner at Ocean Beach

640_taxtherich-beach.jpg
Date:
Saturday, October 29, 2011
Time:
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Location Details:
Event site is 200 yards north of Fulton/Great Highway, halfway between the Cliff House and the Beach Chalet restaurant (public bathroom in the Beach Chalet’s public lobby). A concrete sea wall runs along the beach, with short, numbered stairways leading down to the sand. Event takes place between Stairways 5 and 10.

TRANSPORTATION:

– PUBLIC — San Francisco’s MUNI system serves Ocean Beach very well. Fares, routes, and schedules at http://www.sfmuni.com. The #5, #18, and #31 buses all stop within five minutes walk (level) of the event site. The “N-Judah” streetcar line terminates a fifteen-minutes walk (level) from the site.

– BY CAR — Ocean Beach has a huge parking area. Parking should not be a problem early on a Saturday.

Dear Fellow Human Banner Participant,

THANK you for registering for Saturday's event! You may not be fully aware yet, but every single one of you/us makes a huge difference, and it is never so apparent as when you see the photos!

All event details are viewable at the "Event Details" link at http://www.HumanBannerSF.com. When you arrive, please take a flyer from one of the volunteers you will see.

And please note these few additional items below:

TARP / BLANKET

This is a small, last-minute, paranoid request, and (for you veterans) has not been part of any of our past events: If you can, please bring a tarp or blanket or something to lie on for every member of your party. Ideally, these would be at least six feet tall and three feet wide -- bright colors show up best. Tan (sand-colored) is the worst. We're hoping for and expecting a crowd in the 700-800 range or higher, but if we get something closer to the current number of registrants (499 right now), we're going to do a bold outline of each letter and leave a sand-colored stripe in its middle. If that's the case, we'll be positioning each person rather exactly to achieve maximum "crispness." Our blankets and tarps will come in very handy in marking out the borders of the lettering. If we get a big crowd, this request won't make any difference.

VOLUNTEERS?

I could use a few more people to show up early in the morning to help etch the lettering in the sand. We'll be starting at 7am. If you can come at that hour, please email me. Also, I'll need volunteers later in the morning, starting about 10, to serve as "letter captains" (some of you have done this in the past) and for a variety of other tasks, too. So, if you can, please.

BULLHORN?

I've got a small bullhorn. Anyone have a bigger one they can bring?

INVITE ANYONE YOU FEEL APPROPRIATE

The more the merrier--and the more impressive the photos.
